Fragrance-free products, checked against the full list

650 products in our library pass every rule for fragrance-free: free of fragrance. The best of each type are below, picked by code from their full ingredient lists and updated November 6, 2026.

The catch: "unscented" or "free from" on the front of a pack proves nothing; only the full ingredient list does, and every product here is checked against it.

If you want fragrance-free products, read the ingredient list, not the front of the bottle. Parfum, Fragrance and Aroma all mean added scent, and "unscented" can still hide a fragrance that masks other smells. Every product on this page was picked from its full ingredient list, so you can check what is in it before you buy.

What we leave out, and why

The picks on this hub leave out any product with added scent, so Parfum, Fragrance and Aroma do not appear on the list. Fragrance is the most common cause of cosmetic contact allergy, an allergic skin reaction to products. Sensitive, eczema-prone and rosacea-prone skin usually does better without it. Because an unscented product can still contain a masking fragrance, only the full ingredient list confirms that a product is fragrance-free.

A simple routine for fragrance-free

  1. 1

    Read the full ingredient list

Start with the full ingredient list. Ingredients are listed from the highest amount to the lowest, down to about 1%. Below that point, the order is free. The list is the only place that shows whether a product is fragrance-free. A front label that says unscented does not settle it. Read the whole list before you buy.

  2. 2

    Spot Parfum, Fragrance and Aroma

Scan the list for three terms: Parfum, Fragrance or Aroma. Fragrance is the most common cause of cosmetic contact allergy. Sensitive, eczema-prone and rosacea-prone skin usually does better without it. Unscented can still contain a masking fragrance to hide the smell of other ingredients, so the front label is not enough. Skip any product that lists one of these.

  3. 3

Patch test before using all over

Patch test anything new before you use it all over. Apply a little to a small area, such as inside the elbow. Keep it there for several days. Test one new product at a time, so you know which one caused any reaction. Use it all over only after that.

Frequently asked questions

What does fragrance-free mean on a label?

Fragrance-free means the product has no added fragrance. Added scent appears on the ingredient list as Parfum, Fragrance or Aroma. Only the full ingredient list proves a product is fragrance-free, so read it rather than relying on the front label.

Is unscented the same as fragrance-free?

No. Unscented products can still contain a masking fragrance, which hides the smell of other ingredients. Fragrance-free means no added fragrance. Only the full ingredient list shows which one you are holding, so check it before you buy.

Are fragrance-free products better for sensitive skin?

Fragrance-free products are often the gentler choice for sensitive skin. Fragrance is the most common cause of cosmetic contact allergy. Sensitive, eczema-prone and rosacea-prone skin usually does better without it, so checking the ingredient list for Parfum, Fragrance or Aroma is a sound first step.

How do I patch test a new fragrance-free product?

Patch test anything new before using it all over. Apply a little to a small area, such as inside the elbow, and leave it for several days. Only after that should you use it more widely.

How do I read an ingredient list?

Ingredients are listed from the highest amount to the lowest. Below about 1% the order is free. The full list, called INCI, is the standard ingredient list on the label, and it is where added fragrance shows up.
