Also listed as: Jojoba Oil
Jojoba seed oil is a light, liquid oil pressed from the seeds of a desert shrub. It mainly softens skin and hair and helps them hold moisture. It is on the label of 56 products in our library. Checked against our library November 6, 2026.
The catch: none for most people; check the full product list if your skin reacts easily.
Jojoba is technically a liquid wax rather than a typical plant oil. It is made mostly of long molecules called wax esters, and it comes from the seeds of a desert shrub native to parts of North America. The oil is pressed out of the seeds, then usually refined.
Formulators use it because it softens without feeling heavy. Its wax structure helps it hold up well against going rancid, so it keeps longer than many plant oils. In shampoos, it helps hair feel soft and easy to comb. In sunscreens and beard products, it spreads smoothly and leaves a soft, non-tacky feel.
Good for
Suits most skin and hair types, including dry or oily skin, and fits well in shampoos, beard care and sunscreens.
Be careful if
Nothing in particular for most skin types.
Jojoba is often considered a light oil that many people tolerate well. Reactions vary from person to person, so testing a small area first is a sensible step.
Yes. Jojoba is used in shampoos and conditioners to add softness and slip. It can help hair feel smoother and easier to detangle, though results depend on hair type and the rest of the formula.
